My girls like getting clothes from A and F and I really like it when they get gift certificates from that shop because they have the best gift card holders! (See photo below.) It's made with sturdy cardboard, covered with fabric and opens like a book with a slot for the card. I save these whenever
we get them and with a little bit of patterned paper and ribbon, you've got yourself an easy altered gift card holder!
Okay, so you don't have a gift card holder from this store? You can make one with this tutorial I prepared.TUTORIAL
This is the tutorial of the A and F gift card holder. It can be made for any occasion, but with Christmas coming soon, I thought I'd make it with a Christmas theme.
SUPPLIESSki Slope DSP - 3 patterns:
• 6-7/8" x 5-1/4"
• 5-3/8" x 3-3/4"
• 4-1/8" x 3-5/8" (not pictured)
1-3/8" Square Punch
2 Ribbons 21" each
Felt Fusion Snowflake
Rhinestone Brad
Whisper White c/s: 3-3/4" x 2"
Cardboard from DSP pkg - 4 pieces:
• 4-1/8" x 2-3/4" (2 pieces)
• 3-1/8" x 2-1/8" (2 pieces)
On the largest DSP, score 1/2" on all sides and fold. Clip diagonally at corners right before the corner fold.
Take the two large cardboard pieces and place them under the folds leaving about a 3/8" gap in the center. Adhere the DSP on all four sides.
How to Make the Slot for the Gift Card:
Take the smallest DSP with the wrong side facing up. Mark 3/8" on the right side with a ruler and pen/pencil. Measure 3" from that line to the other side and mark that with another line.
With the 1-3/8" square punch, push the paper all the way into the punch until it can't go anymore. Align the right side of the punch to the line drawn on the right side and punch.
Repeat on the left side and punch. Then, insert paper all the way in the center of paper and punch again. Now, you will need to work on the other side of the paper.
This is how the paper will look.
Continue the same process until you have a rectangle cut out.
Turn the paper over. Trim 1/8 " off lengthwise on both sides. Fold the two sides you've just trimmed, under.
Place the pocket piece on the right side of the medium size DSP (inside cover), aligning the right sides. Adhere only the two sides to the DSP. Fold the bottom under towards the back.
This is the back view. Adhere the bottom of the pocket piece to the back of the inside cover.
Going back to the main piece, take the smaller cardboard (from DSP pkg) and adhere it to the area in white. Do not cover the middle spine.
Adhere the inside cover with the pocket to the main piece and add the Whisper White cardstock for writing a personal message.
