Challenges: Shaken...Not Stirred

The movie is Goldfinger, the name is Bond, James Bond and his drink -- martini, shaken, not stirred. I've never watched that particular Bond movie, but that is the Saturday Cinema movie challenge for this week.  This is my card for that challenge. I decided to feature his famous drink of choice and since I didn't have a martini stamp or the sentiment, I decided to try "drawing" the glass with the olive using Photoshop Element. I was pretty happy with the outcome. It was my first time drawing a "stamp" image. After printing this out and coloring it with my Copics, I realized that the olive should probably have been "inside" the glass instead of sticking out of it. But that's ok, I kind of like the way it looks anyway.

Because it's Saturday Cinema's 25th challenge, Sankari, who hosts Saturday Cinema, is giving away some really yummy BLOG CANDY:

1. The chance to win Taylor's newest set: Branching Out
2. And also the chance to win the Prudence Paper Collection kit from Taylored Expressions!!!

Go to her BLOG for all the details and while you're there, check out her unbelievable card.

The layout and color I used for my card were from other challenges.  The layout is from the Mojo Monday Sketch #79. There are lots of samples and gorgeous inspiration on their blog, so make sure to go check it out. Here's a picture of the sketch.
For my colors, I decided to try the challenge using the Weekly Color Pick from Color Throwdown #35.  I recently discovered their blog and was very pleased with the great inspiration I found there. Plus, my talented friend, Tammy Hershberger, is one of their team members.

Well, I hope all of you are having a great weekend so far. Have a wonderful day and thanks for stopping by!

Best Wishes

It's Thursday and that means one more day before the weekend! My niece is getting married in May so last night I was trying to find some good deals online for flights to San Francisco from Orange County. After looking around, I was able to find a one-way fare for only $59!  Wow, that's so much better than the $118 one-way fare I paid for in January! I'm so excited to be visiting "home" again. Anyway...

All the products that I used in this card are from Stampin' Up! and the stamp set I chose is called Oval All. When I first added the sentiment, it looked a bit lost, kind of plain, so I decided to try out some of my new Embosslits.  These things are amazing! I have a few of the flower ones plus this one.  Just put a piece of card stock inside the folder, run it through the Big Shot and -- Voila, the paper is cut and embossed! After everything was cut, I inked the edges of the pattern paper and the stem Embosslit with Bravo Burgundy to help define it. Then I adhered it all together onto the Vanilla card base along with the coordinating scallop edged pattern paper and ribbon. By the way, I love this new ribbon from SU! called Dress Up.

Stamp: Oval All
Paper: Very Vanilla, Parisian Summer DSP
Ink: Bravo Burgundy
Acc: Dress Up Ribbon, Sponge, Sweetest Stem Sizzix Embosslits, Dimensionals, Sticky Tape, Punches: Corner Rounder, Large Oval, Scallop Oval, Scallop Edge

Have a wonderful Thursday everyone and thank you for stopping by!

I Need a Card Now, Mom

My daughter was invited to another birthday party and since none of the cards I had was "cool" enough for her 17 year old friend, I told her I'd made a quick one while she got ready for the party.  The first stamp I thought of was the iPod stamp from Stamping Bella. I've noticed from carpooling these girls that she doesn't wear bright colors much but she does wear quite a few florals, and my daughter told me she has a blue iPod.  So, this is what I came up with on such short notice.

I did the "partial embossing" with the Cuttlebug on the base card, used a border punch on the pattern paper for the lower part of the card, adhered it and added the coordinating ribbon. I stamped the image, colored it with Copic markers, frame it with another card stock behind it and adhered it to the card using dimensionals. I then stamped the sentiment, punched it out and adhered it to the card. Add embellishments and... Done! I think this card took me about 20 to 30 minutes to make. The longest part was deciding on the design.

That's it for today... an easy card.  Thanks for stopping by.

3D Tuesday: Candy Wreath and Candy for a Cause

It's 3D Tuesday at Paper Craft Planet and this week's host is my talented friend, Sankari of Cinema Saturday. If you don't know about Cinema Saturday, you've gotta try it! It's a fun challenge especially if you love movies -- and even if you don't.

So, here is the challenge: In honor of spring (which was official last Friday) make a wreath with things lying around your house like paper plate for your base, yarn, flowers (punched out from circle punches, flower punches, Primas, ribbons, etc. You get the idea... you can go all out with this challenge! All you have to do is to create a wreath and upload it to Paper Craft Planet with the keyword 3d5.

People who know me well know that I LOVE chocolate. When I found out what the challenge was, of course I had to incorporate it somehow. Here's a close up of what's on the wreath. Can you see the little See's chocolate bites? Who needs a candy dish when you can just pick your candy off a plant -- I mean, wall decoration!  I cut out the inside portion of a Styrofoam plate with a craft knife and used dimensionals and mini glue dots to keep the flowers and candies in place. A very simple and easy project to make.  So, get those paper plates out and make something to show off this spring. I can't wait to see your creations!

Check This Out
My fellow Papercraft Planet Super Nova, Jen Tapler, is hosting a challenge on her blog with over $250 worth of BLOG CANDY up for grabs. You can read all the details HERE on Jen's blog. Jen's father has Alzheimer's disease and by participating in her challenge, you will be helping benefit the Alzheimer's Association. All you have to do is create a card, post a photo of it with a link back to Jen's challenge, and then mail Jen the card. In May, to kick off her Annual Stamp Out Alzheimer's Event, Jen will be hosting a charity auction where she will be auctioning off decorated Card Organizer tins full of all of our handcrafted cards. The money from those auctions will go directly to the Alzheimer's Association. This is such an important and worthwhile cause and I know how passionate Jen is about this charity. I hope you will join me.

Have a wonderful day and thank you for stopping by!

Thank You, I'm Honored

When I saw this stamp set from PaperTrey Ink, I knew I had to order it.  Since I have a lot of flower stamps already, I try not to get any more, but this one kept saying: buy me, buy me...  Okay, not really, but I wanted it anyway. This card is about 4" across and I wanted the focal point to be the large bloom, but I wasn't satisfied with it, so I decided to add a sentiment. Well, last night I received a message from a friend telling me that this card was featured on Nicole Heady's blog as an Honorable Mention! I told my girls about it and they couldn't help but make fun of the expression I made. But that's okay, I was happy. It was the first time that I'd ever submitted anything to PaperTrey Ink, so I was excited.

Stamp: Friends 'Til the End, Warm Hospitality (PTI)
Paper: Pure Poppy, Basic Black
Ink: Real Red (SU!), VersaMark
Acc: 1" Oyster Twill Tape (Wrights), Round Nestability Die (Spellbinders), 1/8" Circle Punch (Fiskars), Crochet Thread, White Embossing Powder (SU!), Button (Making Memories), Dimensionals (SU!)

Thanks for stopping by!

Quick-n-Easy

Yes, it's very quick AND  easy to make this card. Of course you can use pattern paper instead of embossed paper or you can use regular card stock, but I love the look of embossed paper. It gives cards "pizazz!"
There is no right or wrong way to cut this diagonally, just make sure both pieces cover the front of the card.
You can add felt flowers or punched out paper flowers if you don't have Primas. Use brads if you don't have Dew Drops. Use lace or border punched lace in place of the pom-poms. By the way, I love these new pom-poms. They're just so much fun to add to projects. I use sticky tape to adhere them to my projects. To attach the flowers and Dew Drops, I use those ever so useful mini glue dots.  The last step is to stamp your sentiment, punch it out and adhere it to the bottom corner with dimensionals or glue.

Now wasn't that easy?  Well, thanks for stopping by and let me know if that seems like an easy project to you.

Grown Up Princess

It's my turn to host this week's Saturday Sketch Challenge on Paper Craft Planet! The card I made for this sketch is 5" x 5" using Read My T Hanna set from Hanna Stamps.  This is a fun set because there are several sayings included that can be stamped on Hanna's T-shirt. I think this one is perfect for a "tween."

If you prefer to make a scrap page from this sketch, you're more than welcome to do so. Just upload your photo to PCP with the tag sk032109 (easy to remember because it's Saturday's date).  I'd love to see what you come up with, so hop on over to PCP with your creation!

Stamp: Read My T Hanna, Everyday Sentiments
Paper: Neenah Classic, Pink Pirouette, Rose Red, Kiwi Kiss, Berry Bliss DSP
Ink: Pitch Black (Adirondack), Copic Markers, At You Spica, VersaMark
Acc: Nestabilities, Swiss Dots Cuttlebug Folder, 1-3/8" and 1/8" Circle Punches, Iridescent Ice Embossing Powder, Moss Taffeta Ribbon, Heart Charm, Silver Cord, Sponge, Dimensionals

Have a fabulous weekend and thank you for visiting!

Branching Out

Taylor has a new set called Branching Out and I just love all the little pieces in this set. This card is for Taylor's Friday challenge (TECC60) and it uses some of those images.  My lovely friend, Sankari, reminded me that Taylor is giving away a FREE Tiny Twinkle to one random winner from among all the people who upload their sketch challenge cards to Paper Craft Planet using the TECC60 keyword. So hop on over and upload your card at Paper Craft Planet and you could be the winner of some cute twinkle bling! It's as easy as that!!!
Paper: Mellow Moss, Pink Pirouette, Rose Red, Melissa Frances DP
Ink: Espresso (Adirondack), Copic Markers
Acc: Lace and Twill Ribbon (Joann), Rose Red 1/4" Grosgrain Ribbon (SU!), Prima, Pom-Pom (Fancy Pants), Shapeabilities Label (Spellbinders), Dew Drops (Robins Nest)

Thanks for stopping by and aren't you glad the weekend is here?

I "Felt" Like Making This Card

The last couple of days I have been playing with my Big Shot and today my new Button die came, so I wanted to try it out... on felt (you can see the pictures of them below). While I was at it, I decided to cut some swirls out of felt, too and use it to decorate the card I was working on. This card was actually very easy to make. Oh, I almost forgot, I wasn't sure if I wanted to make this a birthday card or an all occasion, so I left out the sentiment for now.

To make the black borders: When using the border punch, keep the sides and bottom intact. Notice I didn't punch completely from one end to the other? By keeping the little strip on both ends, it holds the 1/4" strip in place.

The other supplies I used for this card are: flower from Pretties Kit, Gray Fabric Button, Pink Flamingo DSP, 1/8" Satin Ribbon.

About the felt: A few months ago I bought some felt to try out on my Big Shot. To my disappointment, it did not cut very well. Now, I didn't want to give up just yet, so I went back to the craft store and found some stiffer felt. Bingo! These worked so much better! Pictured here are just some of the things that I cut out of felt using the Sizzix die. Think of the possibilities and the money you can save by cutting your own embellishments!

Well that's it for now.  Have a wonderful Thursday and thank you for stopping by!

Two Boxes-For the Young and Even Younger

Last week I received some new Sizzix die and one of them was for the matchbox. I finally had made time today to play around with it and this is what I came up with. The pattern paper is by Melissa Frances, Stamp Set is Oval All from SU, Pin Trinket from Maya Rd., Flowers from Prima, Die from Sizzix and lace and ribbon from Joann's.

I'm not sure yet what I'll put inside this box, but I'm sure I'll think of something that my "fabulous friend" will enjoy.

I made this box for the PCP 3D Tuesday Challenge. The box was inspired by Cambria's tutorial, but I changed it here and there and now looks like a completely different box! I extended the sides and created a handle by punching out ovals near the top.  The bunny's face and ears are made with punches and Dew Drops.

Well, I hope you have a great day today and thank you so much for stopping by!

Cuppie Challenge

This 5x5 card is for Taylor's Cupcake Challenge #59 (TECC59). When I started this card, I was feeling normal -- okay, "normal" to me is having a regular headache and not a migraine. But by the time I was gluing the main pieces together, I started to feel queasy, dizzy... you name it, but I was determined to finish this card. So, I grabbed some embellishments and tried to finish as quickly as I could. (Now that I'm looking at the picture of it, the button in the middle of the flower looks like a peppermint LifeSaver. I should have put something else in the middle instead of the Dew Drop.)

This week Taylor will be giving away a free Tiny Twinkle to one random winner from among all the people who upload their sketch challenge cards to Paper Craft Planet using the TECC59 keyword.  Pretty cool, huh?

Stamp: Sweet Celebrations (Taylored Expressions)
Paper: Pink Pirouette, Rose Red, Chocolate Chip, Sweet Always DSP (SU!)
Ink: Pitch Black (Adirondack), Copic Markers, At You Spica
Acc: Button (Making Memories), Dew Drops, Nestabilities, 5/8" Chocolate Grosgrain Ribbon, 1/8" White Satin Ribbon, Beads, Prima Flower, Dimensionals, Mini Glue Dots

Well, I'm off to bed... maybe this "bug" that's "bugging" me will go away.  Wow, I'm actually going to be in bed before midnight!

PCP Sketch - A Birthday Card

This birthday card is for the PCP Sketch Challenge for 3/14/09.  I decided to do a birthday card for the sketch because my daughter needed a card for her friend's birthday party today.  It seems she's always going to birthday parties -- that's the fourth one this month!  Anyway, Tammy Hershberger came up with this sketch for this week and it was a fun one to play with.  Give it a try and when you upload your photo to PCP, use the tag sk031409.  Go check out what we have so far.

You wouldn't want to miss any of the Hanna Stamps Design Team 's creations we have for you today, so have fun on your journey, but start with Kristi's if you haven't already.  If you're already "hopping" along, then after you admire my card (ahem), leave a comment, then hop on over to my friend, Diana's blog and see what she has to share.  You can leave your comment until Monday noon Pacific Time.

CHECK THIS OUT:  There are several ways you can WIN.

•  Kristi is so generous that she is providing all the designers blog candy, or "goody bags," for our winners.  Just leave a comment and I will randomly pick a winner on Monday.  You can check the SCS Hanna Member Forum. Monday evening for the list of the winners.  I will also have the winners list here on Tuesday.

•  Another way to win is by playing Hanna Stamps Friday challenge.  Everyone who plays today's challenge will have their name put in a drawing for a free Hanna stamp set!  Here is the challenge:  Make a card or project with something diamond shaped in it. It could be your paper or an embellishment. When uploading on SCS, use the keyword HSFC60.

•  Lastly, when ordering online during the entire month of March, use the code "March" and get 10% off your entire Hanna Stamps purchase!

So, who says Friday the 13th is all bad?

By the way, the card I made is for today's Hanna Friday challenge -- I'm pretty sure it counts -- I used diamond shaped swag holders. Do you see them, the rhinestone brads?

Another Quick Card

I had a simple card design in mind and wanted to see if I could make it in about 10 minutes, so I set my phone timer and began making the card pictured above. When I finally finished, the timer showed that it took 13 minutes to finish my card -- BUT, you have to remember that most of my stamping supplies are not easily accessible.  What took the longest was coloring the vase and  cutting it out. Otherwise, it's very easy.=

Stamp: Vases in Vogue
Paper: White, Baja Breeze, Pretty in Pink
Ink: Pitch Black (Adirondack), Copic Markers
Acc: Sm. and Reg. Oval Punch, Swiss Dots Cuttlebug Folder (Provo Craft), Prima Flower, DMC Thread, Dew Drops (Robin's Nest), Mini Glue Dots (SU!), Dimensionals

HANNA STAMPS' BLOG HOP TOMORROW!
Because tomorrow is Friday the 13th and we should all be so lucky, Hanna Stamps will be having a Blog Hop! Kristi Ferro (Hanna Stamps owner) is giving each of her design team member goodies to give away! The Blog Hop will start at Kristi's blog and from there you will be given a link to another blog, and so forth. Remember, it all starts tomorrow at 9:00 am Pacific Time, 12:00 pm Eastern Time.

More details tomorrow. See you then!

Thanks, Girlfriend!

This image is from Rock Star Hanna, but if you forget about the green or pink hair and all that glitter, she's actually a very lovely girl. I think she's one of the prettier Hanna's in the collection of Hanna's so I'm very glad that I have this set.  At first I thought about making an early Mother's Day card, but that made me start missing my own mother, so I quickly changed my mind and went with a thank you card for a friend. You can never have too many of those!

I wanted something bright and cheery, so I reached for SU!'s Raspberry Tart DSP, with the different shades of bright red, pink and green. Then I used the ginormous Pink Pirouette grosgrain ribbon (SU!) that I forgot I had hidden in the garage (ugh!). Now, I did have my Nestabilities and Top Note Sizzix die handy, so I used those to cut pieces of coordinating paper.

Okay... last week, I splurged and went crazy shopping at different online stores. Today when my daughter came home from school, the first thing she said was: Mom, more packages (notice it's plural) for you again! All I said was: oh, goody!! Well, I'll pay for it later. Anyway, I found the stick pin that I put on top of the ribbon tie with the antiquish pearls at one of the shops. It's from Maya Rd. and I never thought I would love their merchandise, but they're really cute! I bought another package of Maya Rd. stick pin which I'll use on another project.

Well, thanks for stopping by and reading my chatter, if you even made it this far.  Have a wonderful, blessed day!

3D Tuesday: That's a Ribbon Spool?

It's 3D Tuesday at Paper Craft Planet and today I want to share with you a use for your empty ribbon spools. I wish I had thought of this idea myself, but I actually found this idea while blog surfing. I'm not sure where it came from because the picture I had saved didn't have a watermark on it. Anyway, here are my basic instructions on how I made my version.

Take an empty ribbon spool and carefully remove one of the sides (the thicker the spool the better).

Sand any rough edges.

Trace and cut four circles of coordinating pattern paper.

Adhere the circles to the front and back of the "lid" and to the bottom of the main piece.

Optional: Cut a hole in the center of the fourth circle large enough to fit over the sides of the main piece with enough paper left to cover the base around it.

Cut a strip of coordinating pattern paper the width and length around the raised sides and adhere.

Cut or punch out a circle large enough to fit the inside of container and adhere.

Punch four white card stock and one pattern paper (same pattern as the inside of "lid") smaller in size than the opening of the container.

Glue all circles one layer at a time, ending with the pattern paper.

Adhere the circle layer to the inside center of the "lid" with the pattern paper showing on top.  This will act as a "lip" for the lid.

The next step is the fun part -- decorating.  Go to PCP's 3D Tuesday Challenge and upload your creation. I'd love to see what you come up with. When uploading, please use the tag 3D3.
