3D Tuesday: That's a Ribbon Spool?

It's 3D Tuesday at Paper Craft Planet and today I want to share with you a use for your empty ribbon spools. I wish I had thought of this idea myself, but I actually found this idea while blog surfing. I'm not sure where it came from because the picture I had saved didn't have a watermark on it. Anyway, here are my basic instructions on how I made my version.

Take an empty ribbon spool and carefully remove one of the sides (the thicker the spool the better).

Sand any rough edges.

Trace and cut four circles of coordinating pattern paper.

Adhere the circles to the front and back of the "lid" and to the bottom of the main piece.

Optional: Cut a hole in the center of the fourth circle large enough to fit over the sides of the main piece with enough paper left to cover the base around it.

Cut a strip of coordinating pattern paper the width and length around the raised sides and adhere.

Cut or punch out a circle large enough to fit the inside of container and adhere.

Punch four white card stock and one pattern paper (same pattern as the inside of "lid") smaller in size than the opening of the container.

Glue all circles one layer at a time, ending with the pattern paper.

Adhere the circle layer to the inside center of the "lid" with the pattern paper showing on top.  This will act as a "lip" for the lid.

The next step is the fun part -- decorating.  Go to PCP's 3D Tuesday Challenge and upload your creation. I'd love to see what you come up with. When uploading, please use the tag 3D3.

You can be sure I will be trying this out -- my spools are quite different, but we'll see what I can do!!! I am so excited at this thought!!! Again, many, many thanks!!! I'll be sure to link you as my inspiration if I can make my spools work!!!
