PCP Sketch Challenge- Ice Skates

I'm very excited to be this week's Sketch Challenge host for Paper Craft Planet. Originally, my sketch was meant for a different image, but I was going through some of my drawings and thought that this image of ice skates was perfect for it. A couple of days ago, I broke my camera and I knew that I needed to have my card photographed for today's challenge. Solution? Digital card! This is my very first time to try my hand at making a digital card. I've used digital stamps for making some of my cards before, but I've never made one that was 100% digital. So, without a camera, I decided to draw my card on the computer instead of using real paper. My favorite part about it is that I didn't have to cut out the two ice skates!

The digi-patterned paper was a free download from Digichick. I found some photos of buttons to embellish the card with and a photo of a bow, which just happened to match the color of the patterned paper. The sentiment is one I made and the Ice Skate images was one of my very first digi drawing. 12 Days of Christmas Scavenger Hunt!

First, I have to say that my beloved camera broke right after I took this picture. It was really very stupid of me -- you see, after I took this picture, I found a glare on the acetate covering the picture, so of course I wanted to retake it. Never ever do what I did next... instead of placing the camera down on the coffee table, I thought I'd just hold it lightly between my forearm and body. Then, I heard that awful cracking sound. I had forgotten to turn off the camera and the lens was still sticking out of the camera body. Since I forced the lens back into the camera and heard cracking sounds, I believe my camera went into forced retirement. At least I was able to upload that one photo into my computer.

Okay.... on Paper Craft Planet, the Super Novas are each taking a day with our "12 Days of Christmas" campaign. Each day we'll share with you awesome and great gift giving ideas. Today is Day 4 and it's my turn to host! You can play along and win prizes by participating in a scavenger hunt! Just keep reading for a clue and a chance to win!

The project that I came up with is a soft, personalized ornament. Each year, instead of decorating my presents with just an ordinary bow, I purchase ornaments to adorn the packages. Since I still needed a few more ornaments to put on Christmas gifts this year, I decided to make some of the ornaments myself, rather than buying all of them. To personalize this ornament, I inserted a photo of my girls.

INSTRUCTIONS:
• With pinking shears, cut two 4-1/2" x 3-1/4" pieces of red felt.
• Cut one 3-1/2" x 2-1/2" piece of white felt with a rectangle opening of 2-1/2" x 1-1/2".
• Sew the sides and bottom of the white piece onto one of the red pieces (top is left open for inserting photos).
• Cut a piece of ribbon about 10" each and place one end of each at the top corners of the "pillow."
• Sew around the red felt about 3/8" from the edge, leaving about a 1" opening for stuffing.
• Fill it with batting (I used the fake snow used on Christmas Villages because I didn't have any batting available), then sew the opening shut.

I also put a piece of acetate sheet inside the frame to help protect the photo. For the finishing touches, I added a felt snowflake and added dew drops randomly on the strings.

"MarshFellow" Snow Ma'am

I hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day. Although it was just my family of four and my mother-in-law at home for The Big Dinner, we had a very nice time together. My husband is an only child and I come from a very large family -- last Christmas there were about 64 family members at my brother's house. Such a huge contrast from my husband's family of two!

I am especially happy and looking forward to Christmas this year. I haven't felt this way since my mother passed away four years ago. (She was admitted to the hospital on Christmas Day and passed away on New Year's Day.) Since that time, the holidays have been very sad for my family and me. Also, six years ago, one of my best friends died of cancer on Christmas Eve. On New Year's Day this year, my 18 year old nephew also passed away. With all that, the holidays have been something of a dark cloud, but this Thanksgiving, I was so thankful that God has eased the pain and made it easier to deal with and has made me realized how blessed I am to have such a loving family.

Now, on to happier things. With Thanksgiving over, I now want to concentrate on Christmas. This card I'd like to share with you today was made with one of my images from my "MarshFellow" collection. I'm really starting to get the hang of using my computer tablet to draw my own images. (If you happen to like my images, I'll have it available soon for download.)

Gumball

I've been playing around with my new tablet for my computer -- it allows me to draw easier. So, I drew this gum ball machine and although it takes hours to get it just the way I want it, I enjoyed using my new gadget to draw this. I couldn't get good lighting while taking the photo of my finished card, so it looks a bit orange (we recently changed the lightbulb in the dining room -- aka my craft room -- with those new energy saving ones, and even with my Ott-Lite lamp, the color still looks terrible. Oh well...

To make the card, I used the plastic cup (SU!) and filled it with some of the candies that my daughter had leftover from Halloween. My digi gum ball image can be altered to any size so you can use various sizes of circle punches. On the original image, I drew gum balls inside the container, so it really didn't need to be punched out, but I thought adding the cup would be fun. I also created the sentiment for this card. I got the idea from my daughter who likes to sing, "there's a party in my tummy, so yummy, so yummy." (Gotta love kids!)

The papers are retired SU! DSP and I used Copics to color.

5-4-3 Tree-Tutorial

Happy Friday! With Christmas just around the corner, I wanted to start making cards that were "fast and easy" to create. The tree on the card that I'd like to share with you today is actually quite easy to make and only uses two punches. I made a tutorial with the basic instructions below, it's up to you if you want decorate it as simple or as ornate as you'd like.

For my card above, I used white card stock layered under the green patterned paper to emulate snow. The trunk was hand cut and to give texture to it, I used an embossing folder. The "snow on the ground" is just white card stock which was dry embossed and torn on one edge. I then applied Stickles along the torn edge and also on the tree to give it a glistening look. The sentiment is one I made digitally.

This is the first time I used this technique for making a tree. Let me know if it works for you.

SUPPLIES:
1-3/8" Square Punch
Scalloped Border Punch
Strip of Card Stock 2" Wide
Dimensionals

1. Punch along one of the long edges of card stock using the Scalloped Border punch.

2. Position the scalloped edge in the square punch diagonally as shown in the photo. The first piece will have five scallops.

3. Be sure to check that the card stock is positioned straight.

4. Repeat with the second piece, but with four scallops, not five.

5. Repeat again with the third and last piece. That piece will have three scallops.

6. With the largest piece on the bottom, apply a dimensional on the middle piece along the scalloped edge. Do Not apply dimensionals on the pointy area (pointy area gets glued down).

7. Repeat Step 6 using the smallest piece.
That is how to make a basic 5-4-3 Tree.

Christmas "Light" Tutorial

Here's a fun project to make for the holidays (or any occasion) using acetate sheets. For this particular one, I used the Frosted Sheet rather than the clear one because it's sturdier and the effect is more dramatic. I wanted a metal base, so I used a 2" diam tin canister with a 1/2" tall bottom base. Of course it's safest to use a battery-operated tea light rather than the real one, but since I couldn't find mine, I used a real one for the pictures. I had the light going for several minutes and it was fine -- not too hot.

When stamping on acetate, you'll want to use a specialty ink, like StazOn. This won't smear like regular ink will.

BASIC SUPPLIES:
Stamp
Small Canister with Removable Clear Top
Frosted Sheets
StazOn Ink
Sticky Tape
Tea Light (Battery-Operated preferred)
Embellishments

Cut Acetate Sheet the width around the inside of the canister plus 1/4" by 3-1/2" high

Stamp image(s) onto the Frosted Sheet using StazOn

Apply Sticky Tape along one of the side edges and adhere together with the other side, forming a tube

Pop out the clear plastic top from the cover (you will need to have this off if using real tea lights)

Place the "tube" inside the canister and have fun decorating!

Acetate Challenge!

Every Wednesday for the past 11 weeks, Paper Craft Planet has been hosting Back to Basics, a FREE 12-week course sponsored by Stampendous! This is our 12th week and I have the privilege of making the samples for this week's lesson. This week we're learning how to use specialty inks, like StazOn, to stamp on non-porous surfaces.

The Supernovas all used the new digital stamps for our cards. I picked Noses 4 Sale. Isn't this little guy so cute? He's printed on Neenah paper and then colored with Copics. I applied some Stickles for a glittery effect. The patterned papers are retired SU!

If you've ever had a chance to play with digital stamps, then you know how much fun they are. If you wanted to resize your image, you could do that right in your image editing program. Now that's a great feature! Check out what the other Super Novas came up with:

3D Tuesday Challenge - Winter Box

It's 3D Tuesday at Paper Craft Planet! This week's challenge is to decorate this box using a Winter theme. I downloaded the template from this SITE. It can actually be printed in whatever size you want. The ones I made here were printed out at 200% and 150% larger than the original.

Here's a photo of the box opened. For easy decorating, I used the ornament punch and the snowflake punch. I then attached them to the ribbon using DMC thread for the blue box and linen thread for the pink.

I hope you can play along, especially since this is such a handy little box to have during the holidays. When uploading your photo to PCP, use the tag "3d36" so that it will go into the correct album.

Here's a project I made last week that was supposed to be a mini card holder, but then I decided to add a third compartment to my template and my plan for a simple card holder changed. The third compartment actually fit some of my spools of ribbon perfectly! So now, it not only holds mini note cards, but gift tags and a spool of ribbon. I call it my Note Card and Tag Center.

The handle ties uses the little leaves and the daisy die cut from. I found that the hole in the center of the flower was not only convenient, but was big enough to slip a wide ribbon through it. The ribbon served two purposes: as an embellishment and to hold the handles together. Cut about 9 in. of ribbon, tie a knot in the middle, then pull the two ends of the ribbon through the hole in the center of the flower.The leaves are simply glued on to the back of the flower. Now you have a pretty tie for the handles. This design also works well for tags; just cut the ribbon a few inches longer.

The cards are 6" x 6" and folded in half to form a card base. I just layered some squares of card stock and patterned paper in the center and added a stamped sentiment. I also embossed one edge with a Cuttlebug border file folder.

The tags are 2-1/4" x 3-3/4" and decorated with scraps of pattern paper and whatever embellishment I had handy.

For those of you who celebrate Halloween, I'd like to share with you a house which I like to call, Home Sweet Frightening Home! To make this haunted house, I used my template "House of Cards." I added some hand-cut bats flying over the chimney (on coated wire); a black tree made with Martha Stewart's Branch punch attached to a hand-cut tree trunk; and some stamped windows and pumpkin faces. Halloween is not my favorite holiday to celebrate, but it's always fun to see what creatures show up at our doorstep every year. Sometimes we take our kids to the Fall Festival instead of going door-to-door -- no scary costumes, just lots of fun rides and food for the family.

Tri-Fold Card Envelope

This "Tri-Fold Card Envelope" (not sure yet what to call it) fits inside a #6-3/4 business envelope. It measures 3-1/4" x 6". The reason I chose this measurement is that I'm almost certain that everyone has this size envelope in their homes. To help keep the flap closed and for decorative purposes, I made a belly band using a 12" long 1/4" ribbon. To make the flower sturdy, I cut two of them out from the flower die. In the center of the flowers, I punched out two rectangular holes the same width and distance apart as the holes in the buckle hardware. I then wrapped the ribbon around the card, slipped each ends through the holes of the flower and hardware starting from the back and then tied the ends together.

I'm still tweaking the template for this "Tri-Fold Card Envelope," but as soon as I'm finished with it, I will share it with you.

With Thanksgiving almost here, I thought I'd share this card with you. This is actually the second card I made for the Caardvarks May Arts Ribbon challenge (Oct. 5th). It's 5" x 5" square and I used two ribbons, both from May Arts: a velvet rick-rack which I sewed all the way around and the crinkled off white organdy, which is one of my favorites. You really have to feel it to appreciate this light ribbon. It also ties beautifully!

"Take a Bow!" Caardvarks Challenge

My card for this challenge is a Christmas shaker card using a "cup" from SU! I filled the "cup" with beads from my stash and an image of a snowman. I wasn't sure about getting an image small enough to fit just right, but thanks to digi stamps, I can make any size I need! Even the sentiment was easy to resize (after cutting it out of the main image). The cute snowman and fun snow globe are from DZ Doodles and I tell ya, I had a hard time deciding which images to use. Sketchfest Saturday!

I love the tropics, can you tell? This is my sample card for Sketchfest Saturday at Caardvarks. Today is the last day of our seven-day Sketchfest and here is the sketch challenge. I hope you have had the chance to submit some of your cards for the chance to win great prizes from Studio Calico AND a chance to be offered a position on the Caardvarks Crew Team. The flag pins (Making Memories) are so much fun to use -- perfect for a travel page or card. The round paper with the flowers was actually the label that came with the flag pins (I was thinking "green"). For the sentiment, I used my new favorite thing, foam stickers (American Crafts). The designer papers are from Making Memories and Little Yellow Bicycle. All these are available at Studio Calico.

Sketchfest Thursday!

Okay, I guess I was in my tropical mood for many of the cards I've made lately. This 5" x 5" card is my sample card for Sketchfest Thursday at Caardvarks. These flowers (Maya Roads) are so cute. They have a pearl in the center and the petals are leather-like. For the sentiment, I used the Journal Tablet (Little Yellow Bicycle) and a foam sticker (American Crafts). The designer papers are from Making Memories and Little Yellow Bicycle. This is my sample card for today. I love those thick foam stickers (American Crafts). They have a self adhesive backing and the set comes with plenty of alphabets and numbers. For the sentiment, I used the Journal Tablet (Little Yellow Bicycle), which is full of fun things for journaling and card making. The designer papers are from Making Memories. Sketchfest Tuesday!

Today is Sketchfest Tuesday and we're continuing with our sketch challenges to win fabulous prizes from Studio Calico AND a chance to be offered a position on the Caardvarks Crew Team for the new six-month term which begins November 1st! You can read more of the details HERE.

This is the sketch and my sample card for today. I love the tropics and since some of the items from Studio Calico had these gorgeous flowers on them, I just had to go with the Aloha theme.

The letters that spell "ALOHA" were taken from a 12x12 sheet of designer paper from Making Memories. What I thought was fun was the "masking tape," also from Making Memories. The decorative tape comes with three rolls in the package, each one having a different design on them. I made several layers on this card and to finish it off, I added a real shell, which one of my daughters had brought home years ago from one of the beaches in Hawaii (it could have been from the Bahamas, I just can't remember right now).

GCD Studios Blog Hop

The very generous GCD Studios has asked the Caardvarks Crew to showcase their new collections in a BIG way, so we are hosting a Three-Day Blog Hop starting today, September 15th to the 17th. Below, I have listed the names and links of each Caardvarks Crew Members' blogs that you can visit the next three days.

I have to say that this was my first time to use GCD Studios paper and embellishments, and let me tell you... they are awesome! The paper is so thick with beautiful designs. Their embellishments coordinate beautifully with the papers.

The cards and project that I've posted today were made using two of their new paper collections: Sunny Days and Cloisonne' along with their matching Die Cut Chipboard, Stickers and Rub Ons.

The Happy Hi card (above) is 5" x 5" and I used both paper collections, Sunny Days and Cloisonne'. I also used the coordinating Die Cut Chipboard. I added a few things from my stash to complete it, like the twill tape ribbon (Wrights), button (SU!) and thread (DMC).

For the Grateful for U card, I used the Sunny Days collection with the coordinating Die Cut Chipboard. From my stash, I added Dew Drops (Robin's Nest).

This next project is a card and envelope organizer. I made this next using the Cloisonne' collection. I also used the coordinating Die Cut Chipboard for the "drawer pull" and the alphabet, along with the label cut-outs which are included in the paper pack. From my stash, I added a Rhinestone Brad and Pretties Flower, both from SU! If you're interested in the template for this organizer, click here for more info.

Tonight we have some bittersweet news to share. One of our Paper Craft Planet Super Novas, Melanie Muenchinger, is leaving the Planet. Melanie has been on the Paper Craft Planet Design Team since the ‘Planet
launched last year, but with mounting family and designing commitments, she needs to scale back on her other teams to focus on illustrating for Gina K Designs. A Card and Some Fun Announcements!

Tonight, Paper Craft Planet will have a blog hop to say "so long and best wishes" to one of our Super Novas. Join the PCP Design Team in wishing her the best! There will be a challenge and prize, of course! Hopping will start at 7pm Pacific, 10pm Eastern.

Two More Sneaks Before the Party!

Tonight's the night of the Hanna Stamps Release Party! I hope that you'll join us in the SCS Hanna Stamp Forum beginning at 6pm Pacific, 9pm Eastern. Tonight we will be announcing the winner of Jeanne's Challenge and the winner of the Blog Hop! But before that, I have two more sneaks for ya!

One of my favorite new Hanna's is Elf Hanna and in that set are the two images I used on the Christmas card above. After seeing the challenge to use stars and stripes on Our Creative Corner, I decided to use striped background paper to add to the star that was already on the tree.

For my second card, I used two of the images from the Happy Birthday Hanna set. After uploading my card on here, I realized that since I used stripes as the background paper on this card, I could have added a simple star and it would have worked for the OCC challenge! Oh, and just look at that Sentiment which I had been wanting to use but never had the occasion to. I can imagine the birthday girl saying those words after receiving the gift she had been wanting!

Goth Hanna? That's right... I tried to make my card look "Goth," but after it was all done, I saw Pink! I don't think Pink is one of their favorite colors. Oh well... But I really enjoyed designing this card.

Welcome to Day 2 of the Hanna Stamps Sneak Peeks. Today I want to share with you two cards from the Goth Hanna set. In this first card, I think Hanna looks really cute. Maybe her cuteness made me forget that it was a Goth Hanna, so I didn't think twice about the pink shades.

Lately, for the ribbons, I've been using my slit punch (the one shaped like a U). It's usually the right size for many ribbons, and best of all, the hole isn't too visible. Give it a try.

It's Sneak Peek Friday!

I'm so excited to show you some of the brand new Hanna Stamps sets. This second sneak is a Riley, Farmer and Wife. At first I wanted to make a card with a country theme, but when I finally finished my card, it became a Thanksgiving card. Champagne and Rock n Roll

Happy Thursday, everyone! Today I have two cards to share with you. The first one is with Riley the Moose -- in the bathtub with champagne! Since I like bling, or anything that sparkles, I dumped a whole lot of glitter for the water and bubbles. For the bigger bubbles, I used Dew Drops. You may have noticed that I'm using the Memory Thread (DMC) again. It's a great little accessory to have!

For the layout, I saw Taylored Expressions sketch challenge and thought I'd try it with this card.

For this next card, I used four new Hanna Stamps. Rock Star Hanna isn't exactly new, but this one is a little bit smaller than the original clear set and it's made with red rubber on cling -- fabulous! The background stamps, Floor and Brick Wall, are also new and in red rubber on cling. The sentiment is from the new Graffiti set which will be available very soon.

I wanted to make this card "teen worthy" so I decided to add eyelets, but I think I got a little carried away. Of course I wanted to add a little bling, so I added a turquoise rhinestone on the sentiment. You can't tell from these photos, but I used Spica Marker on her eyelids and lips to add sparkle.

It's 3D Tuesday - Scalloped Envy

It's Tuesday, so that means that I have another 3D Challenge for you over at Paper Craft Planet! When I finally decided what project to present for the challenge, I had no idea how much work it would take to make the template for it. For some reason, my Photoshop Elements program just was not cooperating with me! Anyway, after about 10 drafts, I finally finished the template and made a couple of samples with it.

My mother-in-law's birthday was coming up, so I wanted to make a gift card holder for her and this is what I came up with. It can actually hold other things besides gift cards -- it can hold a couple of 3" x 3" note cards and envelopes; individually wrapped chocolates or other sweet treats; a magnetized photo frame for the fridge -- those are just a few ideas.

To make this Scalloped Envy, you'll need adhesive, a rectangle punch, a 1/4" circle punch and 10" to 12" of ribbon. The papers I used for this envelope is from SU! DP and Core'dinations. I added a lace trim at the bottom with Dew Drops and the flower on the tag is made with Color Infusions Memory Thread (DMC). Love that "thread" because it holds whatever shape you make with it.

The challenge for this week is to make a gift card holder with scallops! You may use the "envy-lope" template that I've included, or you can use your own -- as long as it has scallops on it. When uploading to PCP, please use the tag 3d27. Have fun!

Chic Boutique - A PCP Sketch Challenge

This week I'm hosting the Sketch Challenge over at Paper Craft Planet. When I came up with this sketch, I originally had a Christmas theme in mind, but somehow, this card didn't turn out that way. So, I made a second card, which I posted yesterday, that finally turned out Christmasy. But according to my critic (aka, my daughter), this one already looked like a Christmas card except for the bird cage. I guess I can just add a holly berry piece on the cage.

The stamp I used here is from the SU! set, Chic Boutique, which I bought because I love Paris and wanted the Eiffel Tower stamp in the set. This set is available in the new SU! catalog.

Merry Elf

This elf image is from the brand new Elf Hanna set from Hanna Stamps. It's not available quite yet, but it will be very soon. Isn't she cute? I would have had this card posted earlier, but I had a really bad accident while I was coloring. Yesterday I was refilling one of my gray Copics and as I was coloring this image, a big drop of ink dripped right on it! Thank goodness it wasn't right on Hanna -- it landed next to her. When I tried to "erase" it with my blender pen, the blot became even bigger to the size of a quarter! Instead of starting over, I decided to fill in the white area with a lighter shade of gray (C1). I think it turned out okay -- phew!

CPS and PCP

The other night while watching the news, I took out my Riley images and ended up coloring FOUR of them! I wasn't sure what layouts to use so I set them aside. Then yesterday, I checked out some sites for inspiration and found this sketch from Card Positioning Systems (CPS130). They have some really cute sketches and I've thought many times about using them but never did. So, here's my first attempt at it.

My husband asked me to make a birthday card for a male co-worker. Of course, he had to have it right away so I came up with this very easy masculin-ish card. I'm really loving the Core'dinations papers, so I used the boring male color of brown, ran it through the Cuttlebug and sanded it -- love Core'dinations! I simply added another Cuttlebugged paper (black) and added a string. At the last minute, I decided to sponge the edges to give it a distressed look.

My project above was fun to make. For the "pot," I crumpled the paper and lightly sanded the creases. For the flowers and leaves, I first cut them out with my Sizziz dies, then I sanded the raised areas with sandpaper.

A Hero of a Challenge with AiVault!

Card Share and a DT Call

Happy Sunday to all! As I was going through my photos, I saw this card that I made about a month or two ago but never shared. Since I haven't been doing much stamping the past few days, I thought I would share this one with you. This is an acetate card that I made for a Caardvarks challenge. I used both clear and frosted acetate -- I love working with acetate! All papers and ribbon are from Stampin' Up!; the charm is from Wilton; and the 3D damask was a gift from a blogger friend.

Here's some fun news -- My friend and fellow PCP design team member, Kim of Clearly Inspired, informed me of a brand new online digital store, DZ Doodles, that is looking for crafters to be on their design team. I'm Back... (Sort of)

I haven't been feeling well these last few days, so I haven't been creating or posting. From looking at the date of my last post, I thought I should share something with you, even if it wasn't made by me.

These cards were made by my super talented 15 year old daughter and our 13 year old neighbor, who just loves my Riley stamps (from Hanna Stamps). Our little neighbor here was one of my best students in my kids card making class and every so often, she stops by to create something. The other day, she and my daughter made these Riley cards and I thought they were so cute that I thought I should post them. Aren't they great card makers? Oh, and our dog, Angel, loves the camera, so there she is posing with the girls.

I Love Paris!

When I saw this stamp set from Stampin' Up! I knew I just had to get it! I've been to Paris twice already, but I'd like to go again -- hopefully with my family this time (I've only gone with my girlfriends). I'd love to take my daughters to Europe and now that they're a little bit older, I'm sure they'll appreciate the culture and the beauty of it.

I decided to heat emboss the Eiffel Tower in silver for the Flourishes Timeless Tuesday challenge -- which is to make a card with "metal." I think with the added brads this card should qualify for that challenge!

Hang Those Pillows - 3D Tuesday Challenge

It's 3D Tuesday at Paper Craft Planet and my challenge today is to make a pillow box door hanger! I've provided a pdf template so you can easily play along! Just upload your finished project onto PCP and it's important to use the tag 3d23, so it will go into the correct gallery.

This first project I made especially for the guest bathroom. I filled it with mini shampoo and conditioner so when a guest stays overnight, they'll have those handy. It's a great way to "contain" those little necessities.

In my previous post, I had mentioned that Kristi debuted a few red rubber Hanna's at the Summer CHA. Well, here's one of them... Get Well Hanna. I'm really loving these red rubber Hanna's!

If you look closely at the center of the flowers and the leaves, you can see this new product from DMC called Color Infusions. They look like regular DMC threads, but they're actually very thin copper wires wrapped with pretty colors -- and they're acid free. Last January while I was attending the Winter CHA, I stopped by the DMC booth and a very nice sales lady saw me looking at these new "threads." She was so sweet and gave me a few colors to take home to make some cards with. At the time I couldn't do much with them since they weren't available to the public yet, so she asked that I not post anything until its release (I believe around summer). Anyway, this is my first attempt and they are fun!

Sneak Peek - Day 1

Happy Friday, everyone! For me, that means I only have one more day until my daughter comes back from the youth water ski camp from church. She's been gone almost a week and even though I enjoyed the peace and quiet here at home with her younger sister, I sure have missed her talkativeness and her loudness! But with her away, I was able to have a very nice bonding time with my younger daughter.

Four Fast-n-Easy Thank You's

This is a very quick post that I'd like to share with you today:

My neighbor asked me to make her 36 "Thank You" cards in Spanish and since I wasn't sure what style she wanted, I decided to make four different designs.

All papers, stamps, ribbon and most of the die cuts are from Stampin' Up! Other supplies include: Cuttlebug folders, Nesties, Dew Drops, Bling and Martha Stewart border punch.

Earlier, I found out from a phone call that my cousin is in the hospital and his heart had stopped twice today. It's really hard to be living so far from my relatives sometimes. Please keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Favor-It Baby!

Here are two projects I made for the current Caardvarks challenge using die cuts from Creative Cuts & More. (See this POST for the details on the challenge.) This challenge was so much fun for me to play with. I love making 3D projects!

SHOE: The shoe was a bit of a challenge for me to put together -- maybe it was because I had a bad headache the day I was putting it together. I wish I can remember the name of the pattern paper I used which I got from a piece of scrap from my paper stash. The ribbons and button are from Stampin' Up! The sentiment is from the Hanna Stamps B is for Baby set. The trinket pin, from Making Memories and the charm from Wilton.

CAKE: This was really easy and fun to make. The yummy swirl frosting was made from the swirl Cuttlebug folder with itty-bitty Prima flowers. The ribbons are Stampin' Up!

Okay, I just finished watching "Knowing" with my dear husband, our two girls and their friend. It was sooo depressing, so I need to put another movie on that has a happier ending. Otherwise, I'll be depressed all night!

Today I have two cards to share, both for the young. I think the Wee Hanna set is really adorable... it reminds me of my childhood, not that I took ballet lessons, but the set includes four paper doll outfits. I was crazy about paper dolls when I was little and that was just the beginning of my love for paper crafts.

Today's Hanna Stamps Friday Challenge is to make a circle card. To make this card, I folded my card stock in half then cut it with the largest scallop circle Nestabilities die. Be sure to leave about an inch of the folded side uncut. If you'd like to play along, tag your photo HSC79 when uploading to SCS.

MyGrafico and Paper Craft Planet Challenge!

We have a really fun challenge for you today -- it's a product challenge, sponsored by MyGrafico. To play along, create ANYTHING using one of the MyGrafico images -- they have a ton to choose from, but if you're trying to cut costs, here's a link to some free images.

Post your project in the Paper Craft Planet photo gallery, and use the tag "PCPgrafico". (Here is a tutorial on adding pictures to the gallery, if you need it.) MyGrafico has generously offered a $10 gift certificate to the store to one of our lucky challenge players.

Along with the other Supernovas, we all used the Forest Friends digi stamp set for our cards. For my card I chose one of the trees and the owl. After resizing the images to the size I wanted, I printed them out on Neenah Brite card stock and colored with Copics. For the layout, I saw the sketch on Mojo Monday and loved it! I just had to use it.

Just a note about working with digital stamps:

You do NOT have to have a photo editing software. You can just open and print these jpg images.

If you have a photo editing program, the images come in both jpg and png files. You can resize the images and combine them into scenes with just a click of the mouse.

Digital images last forever and require very little storage space!

There are several great tutorial videos over on Paper Craft Planet that will show you how to use digital images, if you have any questions.

The Envelope, Please... PCP 3D Tuesday

Today is 3D Tuesday at Paper Craft Planet and it's all about envelopes!

The Challenge: Make a project using an envelope. It could be any size you want to use... as long as you use an envelope

My sample project is a note and gift card holder using the SU! set Classy and Fabulous.

SUPPLIES:
Legal Size Envelope

1" White Satin Ribbon (about 20")
Slot Punch
Oval Punch
Two 4-1/8" sq. Pattern Paper (Thoroughly Modern)

Seal envelope and fold in half cross-wise. Trim off both sides about 1/4" from edges.

Fold 1/2" from center fold on both sides ("M" shape)

With oval punch, punch out sides of envelope as shown.

With slot punch, punch out at the four corners of envelope as shown.

Align and mark pattern paper against the envelope and punch slots with punch.

Adhere both pieces of pattern paper to the envelope, aligning the holes.

Using the oval punch again, punch out area over the previous oval punch.

Slip ribbon through all four holes as shown.

Tie a bow using both ends of the ribbon making sure there is enough ribbon behind it to pull up for a handle.

You can now decorate your envelope!

I used the stamp set from SU! called Classy and Fabulous! For inside the pockets, I made a gift card holder and card to match. Slide them into each pocket of the envelope tote.

OK... now let's see what you can come up with. You don't have to use this type of envelope and pattern that I've provided, but just use an envelope in your project. Upload your project to PCP with the tag 3d21. and leave a comment on the 3D Tuesday group forum.

Caardvarks Shower Challenge!

Caardvarks is having another fabulous challenge! This time Creative Cuts & More is our sponsor for this fun challenge. Two of the projects I'd like to share with you are for a bridal shower: a dress favor box and a coordinating card. I have to say that these die cuts from Creative Cuts & More are so much fun to work with! Everything comes pre-cut and there are a lot of different types of paper to choose from.

For the dress box, I used pattern paper from Making Memories, 1/4" and 1"black ribbons, a heart button from Joann and a border punch from Martha Stewart. To coordinate with the card, I added a very thin strip of pink card stock to the bottom border. Pictured on the right is the back view of the dress.

For the card, I used the same black ribbon but added an organdy ribbon to soften it a little. The little cameo in the center of the bow is actually a button that I've had in my embellishment "stash." For the inside of the card, I added the same patterned paper.

You've seen those clear paint cans online and in stores ~ well, I made my own version (without the metal handle) using clear acetate and a round clear top tin. When I saw the stamp image of the coffee mug from the Cyber Hanna stamp set, I knew that I wanted to use it in a gift packaging of some sort. Well, this is what I finally came up with and it's perfect for holding coffee beans.

Okay, today is my turn to host the Hanna Stamps Friday Challenge, so here it is: Make a 3D project preferably with acetate ~ but if you don't have any, that's okay; just make anything but a card. You don't have to use Hanna Stamps, but if you have them, then by all means, use them. So Easy Tulipe... Finally!

Last summer I purchased the Sizzix die, Tulipe, and since that time, I had not used it until this week -- Finally!! What a great die -- no need to do much to it and it looks so elegant! I made this 5" x 5" card in about 10 minutes with very little effort: cut and mount on another card stock using dimensionals.

Stamp: All Holidays (SU!)
Paper: White, Rose Red, Soft Sky Textured
Ink: Pitch Black (Adirondack)
Acc: Tulipe Sizzix Die, Pretties Kit, Dimensionals, Mini Glue Dots

For this card, I used two of the die's lower portion and adhered them on a Cuttlebugged piece of black card stock. I thought it made a great background for the new Stampin' Up! set, Razzle Dazzle.

Where's the Beach?

My husband is taking our daughter and her friend to the beach tomorrow and I remember how my girls loved finding hermit crabs in the sand. I don't care much for those little things (eewww), but they sure loved it whenever they found one! This lost little crab, which is included in To the Beach Hanna Stamp set, reminds me of my girls and how excited they would get when they saw one crawling on the sandy beach.

Beady For You

I was looking through my "stash" of ever-growing craft supplies and found this string of beads. Well, of course I bought it thinking of all the fabulous things I could do with it... but putting it in the garage wasn't one of them, which is where I found it. So what better way to dress up this gift card holder then to finally use this string of beads that I just had to have.

This was one of the projects I did for the Caardvarks Blog Challenge. The pre-cut card stock came from ShortCuts (they also have fabulous acetate sheets like the one I used on this card. Under the Sea

This newly released set, Mermaid Hanna, is now available at Hanna Stamps. Here, I put her behind clear acetate, which I'm totally loving these days!

To make this card, I made a card base out of acetate and another one slightly smaller using blue card stock. I masked Mermaid Hanna onto white card stock then stamped the rock over her. I then cut out the image after coloring it and adhered it to the card stock using dimensionals. For the sentiment, I stamped directly onto the acetate using StazOn.

This clam shell image is also from Mermaid Hanna. For this card I used the sketch from Mojo Monday, which I think is a really fun sketch.

Ice Cream Anyone?

HAPPY 4th of JULY, everyone! This weekend I'm visiting "home" (Northern California) for our huge family reunion. The teens are all sleeping on the deck upstairs in sleeping bags while the grown ups have the bedrooms. Unfortunately, my father had to be taken to the ER earlier late Friday evening and as I'm typing this (3:00 am), we're still waiting for him to come back. In the meantime...

Neutral Damask

In this 5" x 5" card, I used the faux embossing technique for the image. When I have more time, I'll do a tutorial on this technique. With summer in full swing, I have to run out and play chauffeur for my daughter and her friend. So until next time, have a cool, safe, wonderful day!

For the Tile Man

Just a quick post for today... my headache is killing me again! Anyway, I've had this image of Riley colored and just waiting for a card to attach it to. Originally, I had planned to use it for a card for a little boy, then I remembered about my friend's husband who is in the tile business. What a great stamp to use for someone in that business. This is Mason Riley from Hanna Stamps and I thought it would be perfect for a birthday card for a hard working man. Because it was already colored, it didn't take long to make the rest of the card -- I just used two Cuttlebug folders and hemp cord. The initials were cut with my Sizzix.

Beginning this Friday is Hanna Stamps' sneak peek for July and I'll have two brand new Rileys to share.

Easy and Elegant Baroque

Here is another very easy card to make. I made eight of these for my neighbor who wanted some Thank You cards in Spanish. I used one of my favorite sets of all time, Carte Postale... LOVE that set!

Tip: To emphasize the sentiment, punch out an extra oval out of black (or any dark coordinating shade); cut in half and separate piece slightly. Adhere to the back of the sentiment with both sides visible.

3D Tuesday Challenge - Bookmark It!

It's 3D Tuesday at Paper Craft Planet! The last few weeks have been very hard for me, so I wanted to do something quite simple and easy. The challenge this week is to make a ribbon bookmark from scraps. I'm sure we all have leftover pieces of ribbons, buttons and other embellishments. For the bookmark above, I simply attached the silk flower on the ribbon end, punched a hole in the center and added a button.

For the monogrammed bookmark, I used the label hardware (Hodge Podge Hardware from SU!). You can put a photo in it, a sentiment or just an initial.

There are no set rules as to how long the ribbons should be... just have fun decorating it with things you already have -- I even used a key! Make sure to tag your photo 3d17 when uploading to PCP.

Here are a couple more cards using POD stamps.

The pink card above uses the Damask stamp. After stamping the image onto Vanilla card stock, I overlaid the image with Mulberry paper and used the Nestabilities die to cut an oval. I added a button and half pearls for interest. Card stock is from SU! and pattern paper from Melissa Frances.

This card was so easy to make. I stamped the Drooping Flower stamp twice -- the second one I ran through the Cuttlebug with the Swiss Dot folder, then punched out part of the image with a 1-3/4" circle punch. Adhere over the first image with dimensionals. To add a splash of color, I just added red card stock behind the image, just enough to outline it.

Aack! Isn't this Liberty Riley adorable? Just in time for Independence Day, too! This Riley stamp was a surprise release from Kristi (Hanna Stamps) and I just love this little costume on Riley!
